Forum Articleback Afshan Azad - stuck between a rock and a hard place

Afshan Azad, the actress who appeared in the Harry Potter films was evidently attacked by her father and brother because of her relationship with her boyfriend. They appeared in court a few days ago charged with threatening to kill her. Her family is Bengali in origin. Born on 12 February 1988 she's a Sun Mercury in Aquarius with a wide square to controlling Pluto in Scorpio. Though more pointedly she has an awkward Mars Saturn Uranus conjunction in Sagittarius sextile her Sun. Mars aspects often point to the father or masculine influences. Mars Saturn can be cruel, add in Uranus and it becomes disruptive, volatile, explosive. Her Moon is also in Sagittarius. Luckily her confident Jupiter in Aries is sextile her Sun and trine those Sagittarius planets which will give her the resilience to bounce back. If she was born around mid day then tr Pluto is conjunct her Solar Arc Moon this year which would make sense. Tr Uranus opp tr Saturn has also been in square to her Uranus Saturn Mars in recent times and tr Uranus stays there till early 2011 so it is a difficult time for her of pulling away from the past. Plus tr Pluto is now square her Venus in Aries at the moment which will be emotionally intense. She evidently wants the charges dropped so is stuck in the classic abusive family dilemma - she can't live with them and can't live without them. If it was an attempted 'honour killing' and the circumstances are unclear it might bring some welcome media spotlight onto a difficult problem in immigrant families and indeed abroad where such practices still go on. Although it is almost impossible for westerners to grasp the mindset behind them it is implicit in the old enmeshed patriarchal family cultures which still exist. Indeed which existed in the west two hundred years ago. I've come across it doing chart readings in India and it is most strange. Individuals (usually men) feel at a highly personal level that it is their own identity and reputation which is being attacked if a female member of the family misbehaves. Nowadays in the west if a family member misbehaves then everyone just raises an eyebrow and thinks 'every family has their black sheep/renegade' and no one fusses much. Admittedly the family structure has almost broken down in the west which has its downside but at least there isn't this extraordinarily draconian set up where everyone has to stay within the ring fence of that particular family's value system - from which the entire family appears to take its identity. hide Marjorie's posts
