Desmond Tutu, who played a prominent role in the struggle against apartheid and was the first black cleric to become an Archbishop, is to retire from public life.
Born on 7 October 1931 he has an astonishing chart. His charming Sun Venus in Libra are part of a Cardinal Grand Square with Sun Venus opposition Uranus square Saturn in Capricorn opposition Pluto. So he grew up in the bleak 1930s which gave him the grit and perseverance for the challenges of his life. His courage was further strengthened by a determined Mars in Scorpio in a disciplined sextile to Saturn and (widely) in a never-say-die trine to Pluto.
What lifted his personality which could otherwise have been rather gloomy and argumentative was Jupiter Moon in Leo which sextile his Sun Venus and trine his Uranus. So he gives off an air of happiness and enthusiasm in spite of the difficulties into which his life and chart inevitably drew him.
Into next year tr Pluto is sextile his Solar Arc Jupiter which will produce some fun moments. Though his life will never be entirely settled and he could be facing a blockage by 2012 as Solar Arc Pluto is conjunct his Sun.

The South Africa (1910) chart has a Gemini Sun which sits well with his Libra Sun. It also has a Mars Neptune in Cancer opp Uranus in Capricorn square Venus in Aries onto which his Cardinal Grand Square sits with not always easy aspects. So his relationship to his homeland has its difficult aspects. But there's also a Sun Neptune conjunction in the Tutu/SAfrica chart pointing to a shared vision and an enthusiastic Mars Jupiter as well.
