Evel Knievel
17 October 1938, 2.40 pm, Butte, MT, USA
Evel Knievel, the daredevil motorcycle stuntman who died yesterday has an extremely complex chart. His childhood under the care of his grandparents after his parents divorce, is reflected in a well populated 8th house, containing a late Libra Sun and a late Virgo conjunction of Mars and Neptune. So he'd be intense, secretive, driven by demons he didn't understand. Mars in the 8th in the older astrology books is associated with violent death and while many with Mars in the 8th live to a ripe old age and die peacefully, there are always undertones of an attraction to extreme situations. Mars Neptune, though hidden, gave him an attraction to the showbiz buzz of publicity and trine Uranus added another layer of attraction to danger and high adrenalin flow activities. Not surprisingly he has an entrepreneurial super-confident highly adventurous Fire Grand trine which falls in the earth houses, giving him that steamroller energy so typical of fire earth types. The trine is made up of Venus midheaven in Sagittarius, trine Pluto (6th house) Moon (7th house) in Leo trine Saturn in Aries (2nd house). Saturn in Aries is suggestive of a bleak childhood, especially trine Pluto, which taught him self sufficiency and to rely on himself first and foremost. The Leo Moon gave him a liking for the five star life style and an flamboyant fiery Venus on the midheaven gave him public relations skill as well as a strong determination to better himself socially. His Aquarian ascendant made him want to stand out from the crowd and with a heavily aspected Jupiter in his first, one of his priorities was putting up a confident front. Jupiter opposes the Moon and squares Uranus opposing the Moon's North Node in Scorpio. Fixed grand square types have endless stamina, are hugely stubborn, dislike change and often have problems with toxins stored in the body - he died from liver problems, partly due to hepatitis (contracted from blood transfusions after one of his many accidents) and excessive drinking. The Scorpio Moon's North Node usually brings extreme possessiveness, major battles over property and money, and adds to the Scorpionic intensity of the three 8th house planets. Scorpio rules money and sex as well as death and re-birth. Extraordinarily and unbelievably he had his first show along with his team of daredevil riders in 1966 as the powerful and disruptive Uranus Pluto conjunction in Virgo moved into his 8th house approaching a conjunction to his Neptune and Mars, which would have had most astrologers quaking in their boots if they'd been asked for predictions in advance. Astrology won't predict death but issues around death and rebirth are very much part of Pluto in the 8th. And it would certainly stir up the underlying psychosis of the 8th house planets. It's possible to argue that he volunteered for these death-defying stunts to stave off psychological implosion. There followed a series of horrific accidents causing multiple broken bones as transitting Uranus first conjuncted Neptune and Mars, followed by transitting Pluto, culminating in one failed stunt in December 1967 which put him into a coma for 29 days. That occurred when Pluto was exactly conjunct his 8th house Neptune. The 8th house is also concerned with business finances and it was these shows which gave him the earning capacity to fund the lifestyle which he had always wanted. So the transformative power of Pluto did work financially though at huge cost to him physically. He took suicidal risks, perhaps because of his early unhappiness - Moon Pluto square Uranus trine Saturn is very bleak. But it's more likely a combination of that, plus the supremely confident fearlessness of his fire grand trine which made him feel invincible - and he was. 17 October 1938 2.40pm Butte, MT, USA
