Edward Kennedy From: Marjorie. (02 Jun 2008 16:45): Edward Kennedy, now undergoing surgery for a brain tumour is the last remaining brother of the Kennedy Dynasty. He has Pisces Sun in opposition to an 8th house Virgo Moon conjunct Neptune. Transitting Saturn at the moment in his 8th is drawing close to a worrying conjunction with the Moon and Neptune in July. His Secondary progressed Moon is also just into his 6th house always a slightly delicate time health-wise for a couple of years ahead.
What intrigues me about his chart is the concentration of 8th house planets - Moon, Neptune and Jupiter which gives a similar feel to his eldest brother John F. Kennedy''s chart which had Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Sun and Venus in the 8th.
Strongly 8th house charts usually indicate a strong connection back down the ancestral line to grandparents and beyond. It makes for secretive, intense personalities, often driven by forces and passions they don''t entirely understand. Often it hints at rather fate ridden families. Robert Kennedy, the middle brother, has only one planet in the 8th and has the most together of any of the brothers'' charts.
Looking back at the parents Rose and Joseph Snr Kennedy''s charts and their forbears it''s obvious there was a very complex and tragic family dynamic at work. John F., Robert and Edward Kennedy''s grandparents were all the children of poor Irish immigrants who came to the USA to escape the famine. On the grandmaternal line: Rose''s mother was one of only four out of nine children who survived - 2 died of illness, 2 died young of alcoholism, one sister drowned while under her care. Rose''s father was one of three in good health who survived from 12 children - 3 died in infancy, 5 had serious alcohol problems, one had severe brain damage from malaria. On the paternal line: Joseph''s father was the only surviving male out of five children, his elder brother and father dying within months of each other from cholera.
Both Rose and Joseph Kennedy''s charts have questionable birth times but on ones suggested (Rose 11 am) and Joseph (8 am) it would give them both their Neptune Pluto conjunction in the 8th - a placing shared with Adolf Hitler who was born a few months after Joseph Kennedy. This suggests the mark of the tragic family history was strongly at work in their psychological makeup. Rose Kennedy has the more difficult chart with a Mars opposition Neptune Pluto square Saturn Venus hinting at a childhood with major difficulties, deprivation and confusion. Joseph Kennedy has his Neptune Pluto conjunction which often comes with a touch of megalomania opposing his 2nd house hugely determined and lucky Mars Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio - so money and power became his god. The relationship of Rose and Joseph Kennedy was, to put it mildly, difficult with a cold, dutiful, ambitious Sun Saturn conjunction squaring an impatient Mars; with Mars opposing Neptune Pluto which would not have been a supportive or encouraging relationship for either.
Both John F and Edward have hard Sun Moon aspects which means they saw their parents as basically incompatible. Plus they have the most strongly 8th house charts perhaps suggesting they were more keyed in at a deeper level to the family dynamic.
While children dying in infancy was not uncommon in the 19th Century especially in poor families, the same pattern runs through into this 20 Century generation where it certainly is more unusual. Of Rose''s 9 children - 2 died in plane crashes, 2 were assassinated, one was lobotomised presumably for psychological problems and institutionalised. So more than half met tragic ends.
Edward Kennedy has a great deal of grit with a prominent Saturn opposition Pluto across his 1st/7th axis but was always destined to live through times of great upheaval with Pluto square Uranus. He''s got a sharp bright mind and a good deal of charm with Venus Uranus in the 3rd. But his principle focus will always have been on money with Sun, Mercury, Mars in the 2nd and Jupiter, Moon, Neptune in the 8th. When the death of Mary Jo Kopechne happened in a car crash at Chappaquiddick in 1969, the event and cover up which blighted his future career, he had transitting Neptune square his Mars inducing failure and panic, as well as Saturn just past the trine to his 8th house Moon Neptune and transitting Mars exactly square his Sun.
