Ingrid Betancourt From: Marjorie. (02 Jul 2008 21:25): Ingrid Betancourt, the French-Colombian politician held hostage for six years by Farc guerrillas has been released according to Government reports. She was seen recently in a video looking frail, suffering it is thought from liver problems.
There''s little showing on her chart of huge note, apart from Secondary Progressed Mars now conjunct her midheaven which will give her a sense of being in a more pro-active situation. Transitting Mars was also exactly on her 4th house Uranus today which is a sudden release, though that comes round every two years so clearly there was more going on and this was just the trigger. The approaching early August Solar Eclipse is exactly opposite her Jupiter and conjunct her Moon which may have helped. The late January 09 Aquarius Solar Eclipse will be conjunct her 10th house Jupiter and transitting Jupiter is also conjunct her natal Jupiter a few days later starting through her 10th house - so hopefully that will lift her morale. Though she''s still got transitting Pluto conjunct her 8th house Mars for another eighteen months and then conjunct her 8th house Sun for a further year after that - all of which are immensely difficult and risky. So her road back to health, physically or psychologically may be a long one.
Of interest is her Sun semi-square her Saturn/Pluto midpoint natally. Nelson Mandela, imprisoned for 29 years has his Sun = Saturn/Pluto - it suggests a life of deprivation and hardship.

A Capricorn Sun conjunct Mars sits in her 8th house with Venus in late Sagittarius also conjunct. Sun Mars are trine Uranus in Virgo in the 4th and Pluto in the 5th so she''s an innovator, keen on reform, and determined with it. A 10th house Jupiter in Aquarius does suggest someone with high ideals though opposing her 4th house Moon and squaring onto Neptune in Scorpio, she does not always have realistic aims, can be stubbornly attached to her dreams, even to the point of disregarding realistic outcomes.
When she stood for President in 2000 transitting Pluto was just about to move into her 8th house hinting at a very restricted, risky period of many years to come (until 2012). In the face of death threats against her family she flew her children out to New Zealand to their father, her first husband, and they haven''t seen her since. Against advice she tried to negotiate the release of FARC hostages and was captured herself. She''s been in captivity for the past six years and is now evidently very ill. This year Pluto is conjunct her 8th house Mars which is a double whammy of danger and suppression, with life threatening implications.
Nicolas Sarkozy, the French President, has now taken up her cause, perhaps why his early love-in with GWB is now looking a touch deflated. Her husband has said that her long captivity is in part down to the Colombian President Uribe, the US ally, who will not negotiate with the rebels.

Looking at Ingrid Betancourt''s chart in the cool light of day as opposed to foggy late night it does become clearer. Something as momentous as release after six years being held hostage has to show up dramatically in a chart. She has natally an exact Uranus (in 4th) Mars (in 8th) trine at 0 degrees cardinal. Pluto is only two weeks off the retrograde trine to Uranus and conjunction to Mars - so something was trying to unstick or transform itself. It would have been difficult to predict in advance since she has such a deeply buried Sun and Mars so letting go at a general level is very very difficult for her or for her fate daemons.
I''d have expected to see Jupiter and Uranus in there somewhere since her release was so sudden, relied a good deal on luck and brought great relief. Her Jupiter/Uranus midpoint has been picked up this year by transitting Jupiter and Uranus but not exactly at this moment. Where it does show up is on her 9th Harmonic. In the 9H she has Mercury opposition Saturn square Jupiter - transitting Uranus was exactly on 9H Mercury when she was released picking up the lucky square to 9H Jupiter and jolting changes in aspect to 9H Saturn. Also as James pointed out there was movement on her Solar Arc Directed chart - Pluto is crossing the Descendant exactly. Also transitting Uranus is within a degree of being conjunct the SA midheaven (perhaps exactly conjunct if her birth time is out by five minutes or so) and her SA Jupiter is conjunct her SA midheaven - so Uranus was triggering a major change of direction (Ur SA MC) which involved SA Jupiter (luck and relief).
You''re also right I think James about the strength of her Neptune. Not only is it exactly on her descendant but it''s square Jupiter and square Moon - thus on the point of a fixed T square (like Barack Obama). This gives great dreams and delusions which are deeply engrained; even when faced with the facts their wishes are stubbornly held onto. So all good advice about not walking into danger were no doubt disregarded. In a way it''s a compensation for deep inner loneliness, creating an unshakeable fantasy world, but it means their intuition often leads them astray since they are so de-realized. Neptune is conjunct her Jupiter/Node midpoint and her Node/MC both of which are basically about disappointments, separation through having to sober up and come down to earth. And her Pluto = Sun/Neptune which is again about tragic illusions. So part of it may not have been about sacrifice whether conscious or unconscious - more that she was walking on air and expecting her luck to hold. Though she''s also got a very heavy Uranus Pluto trine 8th house Sun Mars - so she''d be attracted into the heart of darkness one way or another.
