At the head of the present Japanese Royal family, the Chrsyanthemum Throne, is Emperor Akihito. He is a Capricorn Sun on the ascendant with a Pisces Moon so is serious, hard working, emotionally sensitive. He has a Cardinal Grand Square of Mars in Capricorn opp Pluto square Jupiter in Libra opp Uranus - so is restless, keen on exploring new initiatives (multiple Cardinal), adventurous (Jup Ur), but also trapped in some respects (Mars Pluto) and was always destined to live through a life with major upheavals (Ur Pl). He married a commoner which caused a fuss at the time and she is supposed to have been driven to a nervous breakdown by demands of Royal life. The Empress has a hidden 12th house Libra Sun conjunct Jupiter in early Scorpio so would always have been happier with a private life. Her Libra Sun opposes Uranus in the 6th squaring on to Pluto - so again a life of upheavals which would affect 6/12th house areas of mental and physical health. She also has a Pisces Moon and both have Venus in Air signs so she shares an understanding with her husband.
The successor to the Japanese Throne Crown Prince Naruhito is a 7th house Sun Pisces opposition Pluto in Virgo trine a 4th house Neptune - so he feels rather trapped by his father, is relationship-oriented, kind, spiritual, vague, has sacrificed a good deal for his family - Prince Charles also has a 4th house Neptune. Naruhito also has a hard working, dutiful Capricorn Sun conjunct Saturn in the 5th, perhaps hinting at the pressure on him to produce children, at least a male heir. Saturn in the 5th suggests that children produce difficulties, responsibilities or come late in life. He also has Uranus on his Leo ascendant suggesting that change and innovation will be high on his agenda.
His wife Masako, also a commoner, suffered the same mental pressures as her mother-in-law from the closeted Royal lifestyle. She is a Sagittarius Sun square Uranus and Pluto in Virgo so is restless, likes to travel, hates being tied down. It''s a real love match with her husband with Sun, Venus, Mars conjunct in the composite. She''s feeling slightly stuck thro'' 09/10 with tr Pluto conjunct her Mars and tr Saturn square her Sun till mid 09.

(12 Feb 2009 10:04): There''s nothing obvious showing about a split between Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex - just a rather undermining patch for the next two years with tr Neptune conjunct the composite Sun and perhaps square the Moon. Admittedly that doesn''t sound too solid but I''d rather doubt anything too dramatic would come out of it. Sophie Wessex is slogging thro'' 09/10 with tr Pluto sextile her Saturn; with tr Saturn blocking her Pluto till mid 09; and then tr Saturn conjunct her Mars and into 2010 tr Uranus opposing it which will at least be argumentative and could be accident prone. Prince Edward is highly emotional thro'' 09/10 with tr Pluto trine his Venus in Taurus and wanting to cut away from old compromises (tr Saturn & Uranus on his Pisces Sun). He''ll not be exactly morale boosted thro'' 10/11 with tr Neptune conjunct his Saturn.
Theirs is a relationship based very much on Saturnine values - duty, status, material values - Saturn is conjunct Sun and Venus and perhaps square Moon on the composite. So it isn''t like a grand passion which blows apart tempestuously. Aristo marriages wander off down their own odd path which is unlike normal people''s.

Princess Beatrice does have a Fire Grand Trine of a 7th house entertaining Leo Sun trine a 2nd house Mars in Aries trine midheaven. So she has oodles of confidence, inspiration and energy. A Fire Grand Trine can be entrepreneurial and she''s certainly ambitious to make money. But she''s not practical or realistic and is very impulsive and confrontational with a focal point Mars onto a Venus Moon opposition Neptune. I would have my doubts about high flying success especially in her younger years since she also has a Sun Pluto square which tends to make ''becoming herself'' a slow process.
Both her Sun and especially her Moon are very heavily aspected. Her Cancer 5th house Moon conjunct Venus is opposition Neptune and square Mars which describes a sugary sweet, superficially ''nice'' mother (Moon Venus Neptune) who is a publicity junkie (Mars Neptune). There''s a lot of confusion and anger muddled up in there. And her Moon in early Cancer also opposes Saturn and Uranus in late Sagittarius - so mother is cold, erratic, not really there for her. Her Moon also trines Pluto suggesting a possessive mother. So she''s getting incredibly mixed messages from her childhood. It makes a nonsense of all that cosy ''we''re best friends'' stuff from her mother which is certainly not reflected in the astrology. Which isn''t to say that a bit of inner turmoil can''t be a great driving force but I''d think she has a ways to go before getting her act together - and even then she''d need a very hard headed partner to make it happen.
Her Sun trines Mars which gives her dynamic drive especially where money is concerned but with the Sun square Pluto and Mars quincunx (150 degrees) Pluto exactly - she will be frustrated in her efforts. She shares with her mother and sister a 5th house Moon so she''ll probably have children and focus a good deal of attention on them.
Her mother has a more obviously ambitious and successful chart with a Venus Pluto conjunct midheaven trine Saturn in the 2nd - so she has public relations abilities, likes to be in control, and have her finances together, which being Saturn becomes easier the older she gets.

Zara Phillips, Princess Anne''s daughter, is not having a good year having lost her Olympic place in the Equestrian Three Day Event due to the injury of her best horse, and now has a broken collar bone after a fall which resulted in another of her horses being put down.
She is independent minded though also relationship oriented with a 7th house Taurus Sun in opposition to a rebellious first house Uranus. So quite a contradiction. She has a hard working, determined Mars in Taurus in the 6th trine her Virgo midheaven. Taurus is a sign often associated with nature and animals - her grandmother Queen Elizabeth 11 is also Taurus. Five air planets - a sociable Venus in Gemini, plus a Jupiter Saturn conjunction in Libra and a Moon Pluto conjunction in Libra - make her cool, detached, chatty.
At the moment over this latest accident her Secondary Progressed Moon is exactly conjunct her natal Pluto to within 1 minute so she will feel the loss intensely though, as ever with Moon Pluto, keep her feelings private. Her Solar Arc Uranus is also conjunct her natal Neptune through this year making it a highly strung and confusing time. Transitting Pluto is this year starting to square her Jupiter Saturn conjunction which will bring highs (Jup) and lows (Sat) over the next three years. Regrettably her SA Directions don''t look too supportive for her ambitions to compete in the 2012 Olympics since by 2011 time her SA Sun will be opposition her natal Neptune which is fairly undermining though it will have cleared by 2012. With transitting Saturn crossing her 10th at the moment staying in her upper quadrant until 2014 she will be working hard, perhaps taking on other responsibilities.

Anthony Armstrong Jones, Lord Snowdon who was married to Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth''s sister, looks as if he is having second thoughts about having co-operated in a biography published this month. Having admitted to infidelities, he is now finding mistresses past and present are giving media interviews. For someone who kept a low profile after his divorce, thereby keeping his status as an official photographer for Royal occasions, he now fears he will be persona non grata.
He has a very Neptunian temperament with a charming, dreamy Sun Venus Ascendant in Pisces, fittingly for someone whose live revolves round artistic images. The Sun Venus trine Pluto makes him seductively persuasive. He also has Neptune on his Descendant squaring Moon Jupiter in Gemini, hinting at someone who is very idealistic about close relationships but finds it difficult to make commitments (Nep in 7th). It also suggests a mother who wasn''t available or easily accessible, living in her own world. He was born in 1930 with the difficult Saturn opposition Pluto square Uranus in place so he has grit and stamina Pluto in the 5th gives him a desire to be seen as someone of substance and importance socially though Saturn in the 11th suggests that making real friends is difficult for him perhaps a residue of his childhood which would feel cold and deprived (Sat in Cap) despite being reasonably well off. With a Cardinal Uranus on the point of the T square is an innovator and experimenter and this is further emphasised by his Mars in Aquarius conjunct Mercury. He dislikes interference and is not good at compromising his beliefs or what he wants. Though with both being in the 12th he is good at hiding his irritations.
Transitting Neptune is this year conjunct Mars giving him a sinking feeling that all is not going well. Neptune Mars can bring publicity but it also induces a feeling of failure. Pluto is also trine his 7th house Neptune which is confusing. Plus Saturn is squaring his Moon towards the end of this month which is emotionally discouraging, and then squares Jupiter across the summer which will damp his enthusiasm further. Plus Uranus is conjunct his Venus in 08 bring emotional surprises and upsets.
Since his Mars in Aquarius falls across the Queen''s Mars Jupiter in Aquarius opposition Moon Neptune square Saturn - so he becomes another Royal connection proving to be an embarrassment this year. It will certainly undermine their relationship.

The Queen with a confusing, undermining Neptune squaring her Saturn on the midheaven at the moment till late June and returning in 2009 when it also picks up the debilitating square to her midheaven exactly for two years ahead is not having the happiest of times. Royal children and grandchildren are beginning to catch the headlines with increasing frequency. Princess Anne''s son Peter Phillips with his HELLO wedding raised a few eyebrows, as did the sale of Prince Andrew''s house to a Kazakhstan billionaire for more than the asking price; with ongoing rumours about questions within the Royal Firm about Prince William''s ''waitey'', hardly employed Katie and about Charles and Camilla.
The Queen''s Secondary Progressed Moon is in Leo now starting to pick up her central fixed T square of Mars Jupiter opposition Moon Neptune square Saturn MC over the next year which points to a hugely significant moment in her life. She''s had this Secondary progressed Moon return to this place twice before - once in 1953 when her father died and she was crowned Queen, and again in 1981 when Prince Charles married Diana Spenser apparently about to provide her with a stable successor.
It could point perhaps to a Prince William and Kate engagement/marriage, yet the composites between Kate and the senior Royals are hugely unsettled over this period. The Queen and Kate have a Sun Mercury opposition Pluto square Mars which suggests a power dominated relationship and that is being damped down, indeed separated by Saturn transits between now and August 08, getting aggravated in October and those influences remain on and off till mid 2009. The Queen at Prince William look to be discouraged with each other at the same time. There are also hints with the Queen and Kate of a one-upmanship struggle in mid June to late July and again in November 08(Pl conj Jup). Kate and Prince Charles also look thoroughly out of sorts with each other through mid June with heavy pressures through the rest of the year and upheavals in their relationship to come. Charles and William also don''t look to be seeing eye to eye with a downbeat Saturn square their Moon Jupiter opposition at the moment, as well as a disruptive Uranus opposition Pluto this year and a jolting Uranus opposition Saturn next. Though part of this may be difficulties in Charles making the adjustment to William''s increasing maturity and taking on an action man role.
One person who certainly will not appreciate having Kate in a heavyweight role in the Royal Family is the Countess of Wessex. With a Uranus square to the Sun and Venus in their composite chart this is a relationship to be held at arm''s length and with a close Mars Pluto conjunction as well there''ll definitely be rivalry.
The Queen is also having a hard time with Prince Andrew with Pluto squaring their composite Sun and Neptune through 08/09 - there''s a good deal of worry and confusion in there, intensifying through 09/10 as Pluto squares the Moon as well. Relatively similar influences seem to be afflicting all the composite charts: Charles and the Queen have an intensely emotional Pluto conjunct Venus in 08/09 bringing up difficult feelings between them; and Uranus opposing Neptune and square the Moon which will be upsetting, with emotional shocks and upsets this year.
There''s also a fair amount of stress in the composite charts of the Queen and Princess Anne - which shows anxiety this year but more major upsets through 09/10 (Uranus opp Nep, square Mars, square Sun Mercury); as well as Prince Edward - an irritable, frustrating Pluto sextile Mars (09/10) and Pluto square Neptune (10/11).
Camilla and Charles are not having their easiest year in 08 with Neptune opposing the composite Saturn which makes it tricky to work as a team where duties are concerned; with major disruptions from this year end as the transitting Saturn Uranus opposition picks up Mars and the Sun in their composite chart in 2009 which will bring a radical change to their lifestyle and relationship. There''s a challenging Pluto square Saturn between Camilla and the Queen through 09/10 (Pluto square Saturn).
All in all, they are either facing a major and anxiety-provoking challenge together or there are a variety of feuds and disappointments running severally. Perhaps both.

On a lighter note the approaching marriage this week of Peter Phillips, Princess Anne's son, and Canadian Autumn Kelly is hitting the headlines, given more prominence by their untypically Royal decision to do a HELLO spread which is always regarded as a jinx to any marriage.
Peter Phillips is a determined and secretive 10th house Sun in Scorpio with a Capricorn Moon so is ambitious and fairly driven to succeed; and with a Venus Uranus conjunction also in Scorpio conjunct his midheaven he can turn on the charm to great effect to further his career, though needs a job that is constantly changing and pushing back the boundaries. A 7th house Jupiter in Cancer suggests the ability to attract an enthusiastic partner who shares his interests and will be a home companion as well as a social asset. He does have a fairly heavy 8th house with Saturn in late Leo squaring his Sun and Mars in early Leo squaring Venus and Uranus on the midheaven. The 8th house suggests strong influence from two grandparents, one of whom is highly disciplined (Saturn) and who perhaps unconsciously makes him feel he is not quite coming up to expectation (Sun Sat square). The other grandparent reflected is dynamic, highly active, not always even tempered (Mars in Leo). His choice of banking for a career is probably wise with so much emphasis on the 8th since handling other people's money soaks up a good deal of the energy here. But he will find emotional closeness and intimate co-operation tricky. His need to control (Mars in 8th) could get in the way of his career at times (square midheaven), especially his need for excitement and constant adrenalin flow (Mars Uranus).
His bride to be is a Sun Taurus opposition Uranus square Mars (and Saturn in Leo) so is quite a rebel in a placid Taurean way though with a great deal of self discipline; with either a Pisces or an Aries Moon. Born less than six months apart their charts are not that dissimilar. She shares his Mars Saturn in Leo so she wants to be recognised as someone of substance. Her Jupiter in Cancer suggests a happy childhood family and the desire for the same in adult life. They are both very fixed personalities and stubborn so there could be a few problems adjusting to the necessary compromises of a marriage. She has a sociable Venus in Gemini opposition an idealistic Neptune.
Their relationship chart has an Aquarian New Moon (probably) suggesting a real compatibility - they feel more whole when together. This opposes Venus which is affectionate and Saturn which gives longevity and endurance as well as the ability to suppress indulgence for the sake of duty, much needed in a Royal marriage. Mars opposes Mercury and squares Uranus so it could be a sparky relationship with free and frank exchanges of views at times.
Peter Phillips' chart has a good deal of activity from progressions and transits for the marriage. His Tertiary Progressed Jupiter is conjunct Mars which will give him a morale and energy boost; his Tertiary Progressed Sun is just into his 1st starting a whole new phase in his life and his Tertiary Progressed Venus is conjunct his Sun for this week which is very romantic. His Secondary Progressed Venus is about to conjunct his 12th house Neptune which means blissing out though can also be wildly unrealistic. The only drawbacks come from his Tertiary Progressed Mars and Saturn, as well as transitting Mars and Saturn which are all going through his 8th so there's a good deal being stirred up at a very deep level psychologically. On the day itself the transitting Sun is just into his 5th which is romantic and sociable; Venus is in his 4th for happy family gatherings; the Moon is at his midheaven for prominence and Jupiter is only two degrees away from his Moon which will give him a warm and wonderful feeling inside. Transitting Pluto is also about to go into his 1st house from 2009 so he's moving into a completely different phase of his life where he'll be learning more about himself.
