Creative & Scientific talents
Einstein and De Pretto From: Marjorie. (24 Nov 2008 10:17): James, Thanks for the thought about Olinto de Pretto. It''s always intrigued me why certain people should get the fame and credit for ideas which are often not original. History sometimes leaves you with the feeling that certain famous men produce their world-changing ideas in a vacuum. Whereas most often they followed on from great thinkers who disappeared into the dust, never getting recognition for their contribution. I''m not well enough up on abstruse physics to be able to tell but my understanding is that some of the ideas Einstein put forward had been punted by Greek, Indian and other thinkers many centuries before - as well perhaps as Olinto de Pretto. De Pretto''s Uranus does fall on Einstein''s Pluto so there was a definite interaction at least cosmically with De Pretto''s inspiration leading the way. Sakoian and Acker say of this cross over: " Natives with scientific ability who have this comparative conjunction can work together effectively to bring about major breakthroughs in advanced scientific research - the natives both may be advocates of revolutionary change - affecting the whole culture." De Pretto''s Sun falls on Einstein''s Neptune and Einstein''s Sun is conjunct De Pretto''s Neptune - so a good deal of confused, deceptive interaction going on in there. When Einstein became really famous after Eddington''s experiment in 1919, tr Pluto was on De Pretto''s Saturn making him feel trapped and suppressed; and tr Neptune was square his Sun making him feel undermined. So who knows - the net suggests De Pretto arrived at his conclusions the wrong way and didn''t really understand. But he may still have been the trigger for Einstein''s thinking.
Albert Einstein & Arthur Eddington From: Marjorie. (23 Nov 2008 15:12): The BBC retrieved some of its tattered reputation last night with fascinating drama about British scientist Arthur Eddington''s successful attempt to prove physicist Albert Einstein''s General Theory of Relativity, which brought Einstein to world attention in 1919. Einstein was a Pisces as befits an explorer of cosmic space - an amazing number of scientists especially of the visionary variety are Pisces. He had a 10th house Sun as well as Mercury, Saturn and Venus in Aries in the 10th - so was ambitious, serious minded, wanted to communicate his ideas. Jupiter in Aquarius in the 9th added to his communicative flair, with Aquarius also having a scientific bent, as does his Uranus in Virgo trine Neptune. Uranus Neptune often accompanies Eureka moments of scientific advance. He also had Mars in Capricorn trine Pluto so ruthlessly applied himself in the face of considerable difficulties - he was a German Jew who became a naturalised Swiss but continued to work in Berlin thro'' WW1. When he had his annus mirabilis in 1905 - his wonderful year - when he published four scientific papers now deemed to be revolutionary - his Solar Arc Jupiter was conjunct his 10th house Sun. By the time he had published his Theory of Relativity in late 1915 his SA Jupiter had moved to conjunct his 10th house Mercury. Arthur Eddington, the astronomer, whose experiments helped propel Einstein to world fame was a Sun, Mars, Mercury in Capricorn with an Earth Grand Trine of Mercury trine a Neptune Saturn conjunction in Taurus trine Uranus in Virgo. With so much earth in his chart his work had a very practical orientation. His Uranus fell exactly opposite Einstein''s Pisces Sun and his Jupiter square Einstein''s Sun - so Eddington''s confidence and luck (Jup) threw light (Ur) on Einstein''s work - revealing him as the brilliant scientist that he was. Their composite chart is interesting with a close Earth Grand Trine of Mars trine Neptune trine Uranus - so throwing energy (Mars) into scientific advance (Ur Nep). There''s also an exact Jupiter Saturn conjunction in Aries in the composite chart giving them a joint sense of vision for change - Einstein's Theory overturned Newton's Theory of Gravity which had held sway for over two centuries. Miriam Makeba From: Marjorie. (13 Nov 2008 19:33): Miriam Makeba, the South African singer, has died. She was introduced to US and world audiences after being taken under Harry Belafonte''s wing and was exiled from her native country after speaking out against apartheid in 1960. She only returned with Mandela''s Presidency in 1990. She has a wonderfully Neptunian chart with Mars, Sun, Mercury in Pisces with Sun and Mars opposition Neptune - as befits a singer. She had a Moon Saturn conjunction in Aquarius which hints at her strong belief in justice and equality, opposition a flamboyant Jupiter in Leo. She was part of the early 1930s Uranus Pluto square generation who were destined to live in turbulent times. Her Venus in Aries was conj Uranus was trine Jupiter and square Pluto so she was an exciting personality, upfront, someone who stood out from the crowd. 4 March 1932 Johannesburg, SAfrica.
Studs Terkel From: Marjorie. (01 Nov 2008 09:53): Studs Terkel, the Pulitzer prize wining American writer, historian, broadcaster and chronicler of American life has just died. He had a surprisingly un-Airy chart with a New Moon conjunct Saturn in earthy Taurus sextile Mars Neptune in watery Cancer. Mars Neptune is drawn to publicity-associated businesses. The concentration on Cancer plus Taurus may have given him a feel for the ordinary people of his country. His fiery, communicative, outspoken Mercury in Aries is highly emphasised since it squared onto Mars Neptune and also squared onto Uranus - so he had an eye for the unexpected (Mer Ur) that would also catch public interest (Mars Nep). His 5th Harmonic, usually the Harmonic chart of the craftsman, has a much more Airy feel - with a passionately enthusiastic Venus, Mars, Neptune (and Jupiter) in Libra trine Uranus Pluto in Gemini- so he had insight and the exuberance to put his ideas across forcefully in a way that made a real difference. Mercury in the 5H is in flamboyant Leo trine a thoughtful, philosophic Saturn in Sagittarius sextiling onto Venus Mars.
Mercurial Nobel Winner From: Marjorie. (20 Oct 2008 15:03): The largely unknown (outside France) Nobel prize winner for literature this year the Franco-Mauritian JMG Le Clezio has a highly Mercurial/communication emphasised chart which is hardly surprising - with a couple of interesting Solar Arc Directions at the moment. His midheaven is Gemini (ruled by Mercury) with a passionately enthusiastic and ambitious Venus Mars in Gemini in the 10th. A prolific writer he has 40 books to his credit. A Gemini Moon also in the 10th, fitting him for a public career, squares onto a 7th house Mercury in Pisces (= very creative) opposition Neptune. His deeply buried, intense 8th house Aries Sun is conjunct Jupiter. I''ve never read his books but I imagine he relies on his unconscious muse to guide him more even than most writers. He also has a serious Saturn and inventive Uranus in the 9th house of publishing and foreign countries. He has travelled extensively, living as a child in France, Mauritius, Nigeria and later in Thailand, Mexico, USA, Panama. At the moment his Sun Jupiter conjunction has moved by Solar Arc Direction to be exactly conjunct his natal 10th house Moon bringing him to a peak of public recognition and success.
